Decisions to close or delay school is based on student and staff safety. Road conditions, sustained wind chill of -20 degrees Fahrenheit and weather forecasts are just a few of the factors that may cause a delay or closing.
Decisions to cancel or delay school are usually made by 5:30 a.m. to allow time to notify parents, staff and local media. Since cancellations or delays often create child care problems, every attempt will be made to provide as much notice to parents as possible.
Most of the districts in Ionia County encompass more than 120 square miles. Accordingly, weather conditions can vary depending on your location.
Given our precious cargo, we will error on the side of caution when making any weather related cancellations. If you are concerned about your child’s safety at the bus stop or in transit to school, please feel free to keep them home. Weather related absences are excused.
