Twin Rivers Elementary
2012 Project Refresh Pictures
Welcome to the Twin Rivers Webpage! We are so excited about this new opportunity to showcase all the wonderful things that are happening in our building.
Twin Rivers Elementary School is a Kindergarten through fifth grade building with two sections of each grade level. We have one full-time resource room teacher, as well as, a part-time speech and language teacher (3days/week) and a part-time school social worker (3 days/week). Special classes include physical education, art and music. Our entire teaching staff is highly qualified for their teaching positions as defined by the No Child Left Behind act.
Twin Rivers Elementary School is a school-wide Title I building with 70% of our students qualifying for the Free or Reduced Lunch Program. We also maintain a district level school nurse to assist with medications, injuries and other medical needs.
Twin Rivers Elementary School is currently involved in two professional development opportunities. Teachers and administrators across the district are participating in a county-wide initiative called Hair on Fire to help make the transisition to the Common Core State Standards. The district is also focusing on reading instruction through a professional development initiative called Put Readers First.
Twin Rivers Elementary School has developed and maintained a Positive Behavior Support plan to help manage discipline and bulllying concerns. Student expectations and consequences are clear to all students and parents. All staff member work to catch students making good choices, rewarding them with a panther pride ticket, a positive phone call home and an entry on a large game board.
Twin Rivers has also embraced Capturing Kids' Hearts. This program focuses on building relationships in and out of the classroom. Teachers help students write social contracts that identify how people in the classroom will treat each other and helps students learn to make sure the contract is followed. Teachers greet students in the morning and encourage them to share good news each day. Students also learn how to affirm the positives that they see in others.
There are many fun and exciting activities that happen at Twin Rivers each school year. We participate in several community service projects, such as Project Christmas Child (shoeboxes filled with toys and essentials that are sent to third-world countries), the Math-a-thon (students complete math problems to earn money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital), and Relay for Life (students pay $ .25 to wear their pajamas, have extra recess, bring a stuffed animal to school, etc.) Twin Rivers also participates in the Mileage Club, walking about 3,000 miles around the playground each spring.
Our wonderful Family School Organization (F.S.O.) organizes exciting events like the Fall Fest (inflatables, crafts, lots of fun for free), the carnival (playing games for prizes), and a roller skating party. Check out their link to see what is coming up!
